Matt Thorson’s TowerFall was one of the most well-received games on the struggling Ouya, and the proactive group at PlayStation took notice. The creator of the local multiplayer title had a desire to stretch the game to new frontiers, but speaking to the PlayStation Blog, Thorson admitted that Sony played a big role in making TowerFall Ascension a reality.
“The game did really well on Ouya and it felt like it was time to expand to a larger audience,” he explained. “We continued working on it because there was a lot of stuff we still wanted to add, and PlayStation was super proactive in helping me figure out how to bring the game to PS4. It felt like the natural next step for TowerFall.”
The next-gen release has garnered critical praise, and arrived on the platform right when consumers were ready for new software. It’s just another page in the continuing story of Sony’s indie push, which has been well documented through the early portion of the console’s life.
