Stainless Games' Carmageddon Reincarnation has been in development for some time, but now they have announced Early Access coming to Steam this March 27.
So, for the uninitiated, this is the 4th game in the main Carmageddon series, launched in 1997 on PC, and receiving different ports and incarnations across MS-DOS, Windows, Mac OS, Playstation, N64, Game Boy Color, and most recently, iOS and Android.
This is the vehicular combat game your older siblings grew up on, if you weren't old enough to play it. You can win a race by crossing the finish line 1st, killing all the pedestrians before anyone gets there, or killing all your fellow drivers 1st.
Stainless Games, who started the series but lost control of the last installment to Torus Games, announced development of the new Carmageddon in 2011, and had a successful Kickstarter in 2012. They were able to raise funding of PC, Mac, and Linux ports. As often happens with these crowdfunds, they deferred their projected release dates to expand the game's scope.
Now, their latest trailer reveals a game that's barely better looking than Next Car Game, but with the occasional blood splattered pedestrian. This is definitely the Carmageddon of old, from the same old developers, and this coming March, a new audience of racing fans weaned on sleek hyperrealistic sims will get a taste for blood!
Or they'll find a fun game with a really dark, but not serious, sense of humor. You can check out the teaser trailer below.
