People expected to be able to make use of Twitch as soon as they purchased their Xbox Ones, but that just wasn’t the case last November. Microsoft decided to push the service back in order to deliver something that both the company and its fans could be proud of, and now it seems like that level of streaming quality has been reached. The ability to live stream games, join in on games with broadcasters, and initiate game broadcasts with voice commands will all be added to the Xbox One March 11.
This news comes from Emmett Shear, co-founder and CEO of Twitch, who gave the Associated Press all the details related to the upcoming update.
“It's complete integration," Shear said. "It's exciting because we've never had the ability to broadcast from a console like this with such a deep level of integration. The concept of being able to join a broadcasters' party is really cool, and it's another step in the direction of interacting more closely with broadcasters."
What Microsoft really believes will separate the Xbox One’s Twitch app from the pack will be the ability to join in on other broadcasts. This is something that the PS4 currently doesn’t allow.
"That's a very certain type of experience," said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's vice president of marketing and strategy for Xbox. "For us, we thought that was too limiting for what our fans would want. Our fans really want the full next-gen service, so that's why we decided to take our time, do it right and have it come out in this fashion."
Expect the update to launch in just a few weeks.
