Everyone loves a Rocky story. One of the most appealing aspects of combat sports is a good narrative, and heavyweight Mark Hunt might just be the best active example. The rotund kick boxer was actually asked by the UFC to take a big payday and just sit on his couch after the company bought Japanese competitor Pride in 2007. Purchasing Pride meant that the UFC had an obligation to pay its active fighters, but with a paltry record, Hunt wasn’t exactly an appealing option to actually step into the Octagon and fight.
However, after convincing the UFC brass to let him fight, Hunt has been on a tear. The “Super Samoan” has grown into a top heavyweight contender, so fans will be more than excited to be able to control the striker in EA Sports UFC.
Along with Hunt comes Rory MacDonald and Damian Maia, who are slated to do battle for welterweight dominance during this weekend’s UFC 169 event. Both fighters are coming off loses, but an impressive win in Las Vegas could vault either 170-pound warrior into title contention.
They just keep on coming, so look for more MMA fighters to join the mix in the coming weeks.
