It’s been a good little while now since Ubisoft first introduced the world of their upcoming pirate title, Skull & Bones. We don’t get too many pirate games in the market so this was something that may have enticed a few players, but after its reveal, we’ve been in somewhat of limbo with the game development progress. After the E3 2017 reveal, we’ve seen the game get pushed back a few times with no real indication on if this title will meet its new intended release of 2021. Now a new report has come out that suggests Ubisoft had rebooted the IP altogether.
Skull & Bones was first introduced as a tactical action game set within an open world. Here you will tweak your ship, crew, and overall go on grand pirate quests. There seemed to be a few elements on how the game would handle different pirate factions and government ships, but again we’re still waiting for more information to officially roll out from Ubisoft. After the studio held their first Ubisoft Forward event, the game was not mentioned, but there is a second Ubisoft Forward planned for this year and it could possibly be showcased then.
What we may see is a different take on the IP as a new source with knowledge on the development team started to VGC that Ubisoft rebooted the game. Apparently, this new take on Skull & Bones will follow a live service style of gameplay where new storylines and quests will pop up regularly. Of course, we’re not sure if that means the gameplay has been tweaked at all as well or if this news is legitimate.
We’re seeing more and more games come out with this style of gameplay. Perhaps it will work out in Ubisoft’s favor and deliver a sound experience for players to go through. Of course, we will have to wait and see if this game is revealed once again.
