In a blog post on Lord of Ultima's website earlier this week, it was revealed that the Phenomic developed game is to be shut down in May.
The post reads:
"Today we bring sad news. It pains us to inform you that the final days of Caledonia are drawing near. While glory has flickered in the heart of this new world, the shadows of the old one have risen to take it back from us forever.
"It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you, that on Monday 12th May @ 07:00 UTC we will be closing the gates of Lord of Ultima for good and stopping the service in its entirety."
Players are encouraged to spend what in-game currency they have before the game expires and will no longer be able to buy Play4Free funds. The ability to register new accounts has also been removed.
Last July, EA closed Phenomic with the loss of 60 jobs. The studio was founded in 1997 near Frankfurt and was acquired by EA in 2006. Former Phenomic developers established Envision Entertainment in November.
