If Sega isn’t going to kill off the Sonic name, I guess the best thing to do is take a risk with the Blue Bomber. The publisher is doing just that with Sonic Boom, "a new branch of the Sonic universe" that will include a video game, new CG-animated TV series, and a range of toys.
If you haven’t given the above trailer a look, do that now.
Done? Good. As you can see, the characters don’t quite look the same as before. Sonic has some extra long legs and a scarf, Tails has a nifty utility belt, Amy is just about the same, and Knuckles… well, he’s massive. For some reason, developer Big Red Button Entertainment has decided to make the series mainstay as beefy as possible, likely giving his “knuckles” a bit more power.
The Wii U version, which is being headed by Big Red Button, looks to be a four-player cooperative experience with classic elements of speed and exploration. Sanzaru Games, the team who recently released the latest Sly Cooper game, is handling the 3DS edition.
Tomy will be in charge of the toy line, while the television series, which will run across 52 episodes of 11 minutes each, being co-produced by OuiDO! Productions and Sega of America.
We can expect plenty of Sonic in near future, as the games will be launching in 2014.
