EA has today laid off staff at Salt Lake City, Utah facility affecting both the Maxis and All Play divisions.
40 staff are migrating to Maxis in California while "all of Maxis is gone" in Utah according to an IGN EA source. Another 35 staff, including an estimated 20 at EA All Play, have been let go. The changes are intended to allow the studio to focus on mobile development.
EA Salt Lake was, and will continue, to work on The Sims on mobile as well assist on The Sims 4. The company said:
“EA Salt Lake is becoming largely focused on mobile development, including The Sims and other projects. Recent shifts unfortunately resulted in the reduction of a few teams. As we look to match skills with opportunities, some staff will be offered other positions at EA, while others will leave the company.”
The studio was opened in 2010 and has worked on Risk Factions, Littlest Pet Shop, Monopoly, and The Simpsons: Tapped Out as well as an as-yet-unannounced project.
