Assassin’s Creed writer Darby McDevitt feels there’s an endless number of stories that could be told in the Assassin’s Creed universe. Ubisoft is dealing with history when it comes to this open-world adventure, so there plenty of different timelines that could be used to stab people in.
Desmond’s story was set from the start, even if there was a bit of deviation along the way. However, McDevitt recently told Edge that there has been a misunderstanding when it comes to Assassin’s Creed’s “ending.”
“The end of the Desmond trilogy changed slightly but it was always intended to end that way. And then about two years ago we planned for another story – there’s been a bit of confusion in that [Black Flag game director Ashraf Ismail] once said that Assassin’s Creed has an ending – that’s not exactly true,” he admitted. “This storyline has an ending, but because all of history is open to us we see the universe as a Doctor Who type thing. There are so many possibilities we don’t want to definitively end the universe, but we can have storylines that have endings.”
Black Flag helped steer the series back on course, so expect fans to be watching Ubisoft closely as it prepares for its next venture.
