Pokemon Legends Z-A Uses “Found Footage” Video To Reveal New Mega Evolution

August 21, 2025 by Todd Black

The “case of the Sweet Scent Incident” revealed!

With there being less than two months until Pokemon Legends Z-A comes out, The Pokemon Company is going to continue promoting the game in various ways until it arrives on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. That’s not a bad thing, either, as the title has plenty to show off, and today, the publisher decided to reveal something unique in an equally unique way. A “found footage” video was posted on the company’s YouTube page, showing two people from Lumiose City going to a building to investigate the “Sweet Scent” incident that many had reported. But what they found…wasn’t what they expected…

Okay, dramatic talk aside, the video itself was presented like a horror movie, complete with the “jump cuts” in the footage, the dramatic lighting of the house, and the various Pokemon that popped out to scare both the trainers and the viewers. The twist at the end, though, was that the source of the “Sweet Scent Incident” wasn’t a terrifying monster, per se, but the Mega Evolved form of the Pokemon Victreebel! Apparently, it and its trainer were doing some training in the building, and it got some unwanted attention. The Victreebel wasn’t trying to scare people; it was just trying to interact with them. Oops.

As the trainer noted at the end of the video, they’ll just “train outside next time.” That might be a good call.

As if that wasn’t enough for you, The Pokemon Company also dropped a special Mega Victreebel trailer via in-game footage to show how it’ll look and attack in-game. Clearly, this Mega Evolved form will have some wide-ranging attacks and abilities that’ll be helpful in battle and beyond.

If you’re wondering why Pokemon Legends Z-A may have done all this in the first place, that would be because the game will have numerous new Mega Evolved Pokemon join the title, expanding the roster that was present via the other generations. Just as important, in the main storyline, the Mega Evolved forms are happening at random in Lumiose City. As in, they’re happening with Pokemon that don’t have trainers, and that’s not how it should work. Thus, you’ll team up with a local detective to find out what is happening and how these creatures are being affected by it.

There are likely plenty more Mega Evolved forms to find out about as we get closer to the October 16th release date, so stay tuned!
