Riot Games has announced that League of Legends has 27 million active daily players, Eurogamer reports.
The developer and publisher revealed that the game has 67 million monthly active players. League of Legends is so popular that Riot says the free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game has 7.5 million players concurrently at peak times during the day.
League of Legends' player base has expanded significantly in recent months, with these newly released figures representing a significant increase on 12 million daily active users and 32 million monthly users announced by Riot in October of last year.
Riot Games VP of eSports, Dustin Beck, recently commented on the success of League of Legends in the eSports arena and said the company believes the game has the potential staying power to last for many years to come. Beck said:
"It's a sport like just like anything else. Baseball has been around 110 years. I'm not saying League of Legends will be around that long, but we see the shelf life of LoL as hopefully decades."
The game made headlines last week when users claimed that they were unable to download patches for the game in the UK as a result of the country's online web filter.
