There is a thread on the Playstation forums where fans are reporting in system issues identifying errors labeled ce-34878-0. Today there seems to be an upsurge in reports in said error.
Now, the code name might confuse issue so let’s get this straight. Code ce-34878-0 doesn’t refer to any particular issue. All it says is the system crashed. Playstation 3s also had the code, in fact the thread started with complaints on that system. Sony simply carried the code name over, but it doesn’t help us identify the problem.
Now, if you actually go through the thread, you will see a lot of common issues. Mainly, when the system crashes it is unable to save games, and in the worst case scenario, consoles even brick themselves. A variety of other symptoms also show up, including games unable to load, unable to go back to home, etc.
Now, since the code identifies several issues, several solutions also pop up. If you personally are having problems with your PS4 console, you are better off troubleshooting on your own rather than trying everything in the thread. For example, some people simply had to close their current application and restart for the problems to go away. For people with save issues, deleting their game save, as regretful as that would be, could work for them.
I read one unfortunate soul’s account of going through four replacement PS4 units. Presumably, he had problems with his account, but it says something about Sony loyalty that he kept asking for replacements. In any case, there is one common error going around, and at least one dev has pointed out it’s a problem on Sony’s end, either on their software or hardware. Sony’s silence on it has been troubling, but we hope they can bring light to the issue soon.
