When it comes to the lines of PlayStation video game titles there may be some that know exactly what video game IPs are being developed and managed by the Sony-owned companies. However, to further showcase their line of video game titles for players the company has decided to create an umbrella brand. Now upcoming video game titles that are developed and managed by Sony will include the PlayStation Studios logo.
Announced by Sony, the PlayStation Studios logo bump will be set before a variety of video game titles, on the packaging, and even printed on the discs. It’s a way to tell players that this is a PlayStation team developed video game and in a way, a means to offer a quality guarantee. There have been several studios incorporated under the PlayStation brand so we’re sure that this will simply help class these games together.
The senior vice president and head of global marketing for Sony Interactive Entertainment, Eric Lempel, offered a few comments to Gamesindustry.biz.
“Over the last few years — and even the last decade — the strength of the titles coming out from our studios has been stronger than ever. We have been thinking about how we unite all of these great games under one brand, and really the purpose of that is to make the consumer understand that, when they see this brand, they’re getting ready for a robust, innovative, deep experience that they’ve come to expect from games coming from PlayStation. So we came up with PlayStation Studios.”
While this is a new means to further showcase the power of the PlayStation brand, there are some video game titles coming out that won’t feature PlayStation Studios due to the game being released before the branding is ready. One of those games happens to be the highly anticipated release of The Last of Us Part 2. What’s also worth mentioning is that Eric Lempel also made note that this brand will be on other platforms as well that games release on such as the PC platform. So far there is only the announcement of Horizon Zero Dawn making its way onto the PC platform, though it looks like there are bound to be quite a few other iconic PlayStation IPs making their way off the console exclusivity.
