PlayStation 3 owners with access to PS Plus and new owners of InFamous 2 will be able to get in on the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta as early as June 28. The beta will be open to the rest of the world on July 4.
The beta, which runs until July 13, will allow players to have an early taste of Sony's new action adventure game.
The beta will cap players to level 25 and include nine multiplayer modes, including five-player Team Deathmatch, Plunder and Team Objective, six-player 3-Team Deathmatch, and eight-player modes Free For All and High Stakes. The game's cooperative modes have yet to be unveiled, but those attending E3 can expect to see it at the event.
Only a small portion of the game will be available in the beta, which only features two maps—an airfield, and a French chateau. Both maps will be altered by dynamic events.
Players can choose to play as Drake, Sully, a treasure hunter, and various pirates.
Weapons that players can equip include the AK-47, G-Mal, Dragon Sniper, RPGs, and pistols. Additionally, weapons can be fully modded with clip size, radar, and rate of fire.
Much like Call of Duty, players who earn enough medals will be able to choose special abilities, including the Smoke Bomb, Speedy G, RPG!!!, and Cluster Bomb for use during the game. Furthermore, players can customize their avatars with two booster abilities, including Come Here (tracks the last player who killed you), Cloaked (silent, invisible on radar), and Weapon Expert (adds mod capacity to weapons). Other slot abilities include Back in the Saddle (reduced respawn time), Bargain (cheaper medal kickbacks), Power Hunter (locate power weapons), and Daredevil (ammo from taunting defeated opponents).
The gameplay will be balanced for both the winners and the losers, allowing the losing team to make a comeback through the addition of Power Plays, which includes the following abilities:
- Marked Man – A person on the winning team is marked, and the losing team gets 3 points if they kill him. Meanwhile, the winning team gets double cash for each kill and a special medal if the Marked Man doesn’t die.
- Cursed – The winning team sees all characters as skeletons and friendly fire is turned on. Each time the losing team gets a kill or the winning team kills one of its own, the losing team gets two points. Meanwhile, the winning team gets double cash for each member of the losing team killed.
- Exposed – The winning team’s location is revealed to the losing team. The winning team gets double cash for each losing team member killed.
- Double Damage – Losing team inflicts double damage. Winning team earns double cash for each kill.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is set for a November release, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.
