The PlayStation 4 was the best selling home console in the UK for 2013, narrowly beating the Xbox 360, MCV reports.
Sony sold 530,000 PS4s in the UK last year compared to 364,000 Xbox One systems according to ChartTrack and broke history by becoming the fastest selling console in the country, also coming ahead of the Xbox 360's total for the year by a few thousand units.
Fergal Gara, head of PlayStation UK, commented:
"We are delighted with the very strong sales of PS4 to date. Since we unveiled the console, gamers have shown huge interest in the PS4. Our focus now is rebuilding stock levels so those have not been able to get a PS4 can finally experience the next-gen. I'd like to thank the gamers, our retail and publishing partners who played a big part in making this success possible."
Worldwide, PS4 sales stood at 4.2 million as of December 28th Sony CEO Kaz Hirai announced earlier this week at the Consumer Electronics Show.
While PS4 took first place at home the best selling gaming device in the UK last year was the 3DS although it's unclear how exactly the difference between a console and a gaming device is defined for the purposes of tracking units sold. The success of the 3DS was due to a combination of strong game titles and the launch of the 2DS.
