Be on the lookout, all ye dedicated World of Warcraft players. Blizzard has issued a warning for a “dangerous Trojan” that’s being used to compromise player accounts, and the firm’s authenticator is just not enough protection to stop it.
This is a fast-moving, real-time attack that snatches player account information and the authenticator password upon being entered. With a slew of new content coming to World of Warfcraft in the near future, the last thing you want is your dedicated character to get stolen by some digital thief.
“We are currently looking for more information on the Trojan,” Blizzard said. “We have not been able to locate any anti-virus programs that will remove it besides just reformatting your system.”
Where is it coming from, and when will Blizzard find a solution? We just don’t know at this time, but if you have been compromised, the developer says to reply to a forum thread set up containing system MSInfo. Other than that, hold on tight and be wary of any sketchy business.
