Both Microsoft and Sony are showcasing small bits of information regarding the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It’s worth noting that both of these next-generation console platforms are using SSDs, something that PC users have had the luxury of owning for several years now. As we get closer to the launch window of the next-generation console platforms, which has been stated in the past for the holiday season this year.
As a result of the latest presentation for the PlayStation 5, lead architect Mark Cerny has spoken of the high speeds of the PlayStation 5 thanks to the SSD. For instance, Mark Cerny decided to showcase the SSD in comparison to the PlayStation 4 hard drive. This switch from HDDs to SSDs will make the system not only snappy for game load times but you can expect a significant decrease in install times for the PlayStation 5.
The SSD will also free up some time regarding seek times. This is the time it takes a hard drive to find select data on the hard drive. With the SSD there won’t be any seek times which should make a big jump in performance for video games as well. We’re sure that there will be some other areas that the SSD will prove to be a big difference in this next-generation of console gaming.
In other news regarding the PlayStation 5, we have a full breakdown of the specifications inside the system right here. For now, all we can do is wait and see just when the next big reveal comes for the PlayStation 5.
