We have for you a new trailer for the latest DLC for Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag, announcing its launch. Reintroducing Freedom Cry, starring Adewale and available starting today.
Following the events of Black Flag, Adewale recounts his life as a youth in a plantation. He was able to escape the plantation after a pirate raid, to become one of them, eventually finding his way to becoming your second-in-command in the Jackdaw.
Adewale finds himself shipwrecked in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, 1735. Two thousand slaves live under the control of six hundred French citizens, who themselves become increasingly cruel in the hopes of stemming any possible revolts.
Adewale starts out in self-interest, merely interacting with the locals to formulate plans to assemble a crew and steal away a ship. However, the longer he stays, the more he gets drawn into the Maroon slave community. Adewale is eventually forced to live up to his past and take a stand.
Freedom Cry is not a video game ‘12 Years A Slave’ as much as it is a ‘Django Unchained’, and that’s fine. This DLC seems to want to bring you into the history of the Maroon resistance of Saint-Domingue and Port-au-Prince, and much like other historical details in Black Flag, expect them to get liberal with that history. Still, there could be something empowering in playing the fearsome Adewale, commandeering his own ship, the Experto Crede. Let’s hope Ubisoft gets the tone right on this one. Freedom Cry is a four hour mission coming to PSN, XBLA, Steam, and UPlay. Watch the new trailer below.
