Unfortunately for Nintendo fans, the new Super Smash Bros. games slated for Wii U and 3DS releases won’t make it in time for blooming flowers and daylight savings time. The character-driven brawlers will be available in 2014, but series director Masahiro Sakurai has squashed the rumors that we’d be seeing retail releases as early as spring.
Just like every other developer under the sun, Sakurai broke the news on Twitter (via Siliconera). He saw the rumor for the early launch date circulating the internet, and as someone who relates just the character selection process to death, the spring date probably caused a bit of stress. So, even without the story mode and cutscenes, we won’t see the return of one of the most mindlessly fun Nintendo products until sometime later in 2014. Keep an eye on more character and stage reveals well before that, though.
