Resident Evil has been around for ages and with it came several video game installments. While most are considered canon, there have been some spin-off titles that fans can enjoy as a standalone style experience. When it comes to the latest developments of the franchise, we’re finding out that the multiplayer experience that will come packaged in with the Resident Evil 3 remake will not be canon.
Prior to Resident Evil 3 remake being announced, we got the unveiling of Resident Evil: Resistance. This is a multiplayer 4v1 game where a team of players will work together to solve clues and fight off against familiar enemies from the franchise. At the same time, the opposing player is setting up traps and enemies for players to fight as they progress. It’s also a game that will be bundled in with the Resident Evil 3 remake launch but Capcom has recently come up to alert fans that this is purely a fun spin-off experience that won’t be tied to the franchise canon.
Speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano has stated that while it’s not canon, the game experience was tied in because of the similar themes. For instance, both titles are focused around escaping whether it be an enemy or a location and as a result, the two are packaged together as one for the upcoming release.
We still have a small wait before we’re able to get our hands on a copy of the game as Resident Evil 3 will not be ready to hit the market until April 3, 2020. With that said, you can expect the game to be available on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
