For this guide, we’re going through a brief tutorial on how to control the attack jets in Battlefield 4, using speed and while in the 3rd person perspective. Please note that this is not about the basics of using attack jets.
There are three main movements you will want to learn using a jet: loops, diagonals and circles. Mastering these will give you a huge advantage over everyone else in the map.
The loop is the most basic of flight maneuvers. You form a circle by moving in a straight line, turning up and going all the way around until you are back to the level you were originally in, and then go back into a straight line.
A diagonal is a twisting movement you do by moving a slight angle down, twisting your plane around while maneuvering upwards, and then turning back into the right direction when ascending.
A circle is a completely sideways maneuver. Instead of ascending and descending like you did with a loop, you turn your plane completely towards the left or the right, in such a way that you form a circle.
Now, in Battlefield 4, you will control your jet’s speed with the help of the options at the bottom of the screen, right in the center. As much as possible, you want to keep speed constant or close to 307.
The A-10 is a good jet to start with, as all you do is move your tail wing and control speed with the options. Master using the brake to control the tail wing, and – here’s the real trick – make sure the tail wing is aligned with the line formed by the options at all times. You can keep this constant even when maneuvering, and that will help you keep balance and control.
When you’re ready, you can move on to the Q-5 Fantan. In this case, you will want to maneuver in such a way that your tail wing is aligned with the line formed by the options.
Finally, you can move on to the SU-35 Flanker, which is similar to the FA-18 Hornet. In this case, you will want to keep your plane aligned to the Hydra rocket missile launcher in the options. For the Flanker, you need to be constantly using the brake to maneuver correctly.
