Review: Doublesight’s DS-90U USB Monitor

May 10, 2011 by Eric Swain

A review of the DS-90U USB powered monitor from Doublesight.

For about two solid weeks I had the privilege to test out DoubleSight Smart USB 9” Monitor DS-90U. This USB powered monitor is a great piece to add on your desk to keep track of your email, websites, RSS feeds, Twitter, really any feed or website that you may need to keep a close eye on. DoubleSight has a wide variety of displays ranging from USB, Multi LCD displays or to the single LCD displays. For this review we will only talk about DoubleSight's USB DS-90U USB powered display.

From the Box:

  • DS-90U Monitor

  • USB Power Cable

  • Software with Drivers and Manual

  • Stand

  • Protective Hard Shell cover

Design:

The over all design is a very glossy finished. I personally am not a huge fan of anything real glossy because with any kind of glossy Finnish becomes a magnet for fingerprints and dust. The overall color is black including the stand and hard shell cover that snaps onto the monitor protecting the screen from any mishaps and great for any traveling purposes. The back has all of the features which includes the power on and brightness settings, the mini USB connection and the slot to mount to the stand you get when purchasing the display.

Functionality:

DS-90U will run and power via USB, so no need for any power cord adapter. Installation is very simple and easy process. You simply mount the monitor to the stand and connect the USB to the computer. Once that is completed, run the Software that will download the drivers, also included in the software is a manual. The picture quality on the LCD display was crystal clear and bright with a resolution of 1024 x 600. Another nice function this little display has is the ability to flip from landscape to portrait mode, so you now have the option if you prefer a certain view over another. I was able to keep track without any problems my emails while working on the computer's or just surfing the web. The DS-90U became a everyday tool for me giving me a great amount of space on the computer while keeping other important documents, messengers, feeds, and emails off to the side running instead of clicking through several tabs to find what exactly I was looking for on the main screen.

In closing:

The DoubleSight DS-90U is a great lightweight and portable monitor. With the ability to work with both PC and MAC and only run on USB with no need of a power adapter is a nice way to keep this with you in you office, home or during travels. The screen is big enough to show what's going on and a great tool for monitoring Email, Instant Messenger, Viewing PC photo albums, or just sitting back and watching Internet Videos. The DS-90U will set you back about $160 or other online retailers such as Amazon.com is listed for low as $125.  The DS-90U is worth the money if you're looking for a nice small portable monitor for anything needing a constant watch.
