A Sony user recorded their conversation with Netflix customer support, and was able to confirm that Netflix will be available for Playstation 4 at launch.
The conversation is short and straightforward. The customer explains they use Playstation 3 on Netflix all the time. They are getting a Playstation 4 come launch on November 29, and are curious when Netflix will be available for the new console.
After a brief moment of verification, the Netflix customer support agent confirms that Netflix will in fact be available on Playstation 4 from day one. He also confirms PS4 users can choose to use Netflix via web browser or to use the official app, which is, of course, recommended.
Netflix has been on video game consoles since 2008, when Xbox 360 owners who had both a Netflix Unlimited subscription and an Xbox Live Gold subscription were one of the few to try it out for the first time. On the following years, the service was rolled out to Playstation 3 and Wii respectively. Netflix then moved on to portables, going onto Nintendo 3DS on 2011 and the Playstation Vita on 2012. The first eight generation console to come to market, the Wii U, received its Netflix app shortly after release, and it has now been integrated to the TVii app.
Netflix the service is a billion dollar business, and admittedly, its entry into consoles is a very niche market. However, as gamers benefit from having more options to access Netflix, Netflix is able to expand revenue by reaching out to more and more platforms. We hope to confirm that Netflix is coming to Xbox One at launch, or at least shortly after, as well.
