Naughty Dog has confirmed today that their highly anticipated sequel title — The Last of Us Part 2, won’t have any multiplayer features.
Developer Anthony Newman from Naughty Dog dropped the bombshell of news today stating that they intended to launch with a multiplayer portion, however, due to the scale and pure ambition the studio had for the game, they decided to cut it completely and focus on the story. This is a pretty crazy move as the original title, The Last of Us, had some of the best mutiplayer portions for a primarily single-player focused game.
However, if the cut of multiplayer helps the team at Naughty Dog create a better narrative for The Last of Us Part 2, then, by all means, it was the right choice. Check out the quote from Naughty Dog’s Anthony Newman down below:
“Multiplayer will not be included with The Last of Us Part 2,” said Anthony Newman, the game’s co-director. “I know we had kind of announced that [it would have multiplayer], but as the game has developed, it’s become so ambitious, so grand in scope, and so intricate in its complexity, that it really required the full focus of the studio to deliver this single-player experience.”
In related news, Naughty Dog’s embargo on the gameplay demo has been lifted and news about the game has flooded the internet! The new details for The Last of Us Part 2 gameplay are pretty awesome. It seems that Naughty Dog adapted the gameplay to Ellie as she is more nimble, and light on her feet. Read more about The Last of Part 2 gameplay features right here!
