2KGames has dated the release of The Darkness II for October 4, 2011 in North America and October 11 for the rest of the world on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms.
Inspired by Top Cow Productions and developed by Digital Extremes, The Darkness II will return players into the skin of Jackie Estacado, wielder of Darkness—a primeval force of destruction.
The game is said to break traditional FPS conventions by allowing players to slash, grab and throw objects and enemies with Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game's visuals are stylized with hand-painted graphic noir technique, staying true to its comic book origins.
The Darkness II takes place two years after the events of the first game. Jackie Estacado is now the Don of the Esticado crime family, who continues to have haunting visions of the murder of his girlfriend Jenny. A mob war has broken out and Jackie must use the Darkness to confront his worst nightmares.
