If you’re a fan of the Destiny franchise, you may need to start preparing the transition to Steam. The latest installment, Destiny 2 is leaving Battle.net and as a result, it’s going to land on the Steam launcher. Chances are you already have Steam downloaded with several games in the library so there won’t be much of a need to make a new account and set Steam up. Today we’re finding out that the game will officially be removed from Battle.net and put on Steam this September 17, 2019. Here’s everything you need to know about the moving process.
Bungie announced on their official blog that the Destiny 2 video game will be moving off of Battle.net and onto Steam this September. With it, players will have the ability to move all of the current characters, gear, and any progress made from your Battle.net account onto Steam. This is a one-time transfer and it looks like all of your ownership rights will still be intact. In fact, if Bungie even noted that if you wish to pre-order Shadowkeep on Steam, it will be migrated to your account at a later date. Now it’s questionable right now on how this process will work as the developers have yet to make a list of what exactly you need to do in order to transfer the account information, but that should be given out with plenty of time to handle everything prior to the actual switch date.
Again, this shouldn’t be a big hassle as Steam is one of the biggest video game marketplace launchers for the PC platform and again, its likely something you’ve already installed on your PC. Of course, with that said, if you have yet to make preparations for the Steam client, you can do so by downloading and creating an account right here.
For now, we have to wait and see just how Bungie plans on migrating the accounts and if it will be a smooth process. More information is said to come this summer so we’ll keep tabs on the process and alert you with the latest details once they are presented.
