Auburn student Zachery Burgess was arrested last week having stolen a truck and kidnapped a woman in an attempt to replicate Grand Theft Auto in real life.
The freshman was visiting Baton Rouge for the college football game between Auburn and Louisiana State University when he smashed into several cars in the vehicle.
A NBC33 News report states:
"One Auburn fan who visited Baton Rouge never got the chance to see the big match-up. That’s because he was behind bars after he allegedly stole a truck, kidnapped a woman, and hit several parked cars.
"According to the arrest report, the incident happened on Saturday, Sept. 21 shortly before 2:30 a.m. Officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department were called to the Tigerland-area in response to a stolen vehicle and erratic driver. "
Burgess stole the truck upon seeing that the driver had left the keys in the ignition and when asked by police why he had done it commented that, "he wanted to see what it was really like to play the video game Grand Theft Auto," according to Captain Don Coppola.
He has been charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Hit-and-Run (nine counts) and Simple Kidnapping. Thankfully, no one seems to have been hurt during Burgess' efforts to turn art into reality.
Burgess isn't the only person to run into the wrong side of the law because of Rockstar's series recently; three men were arrested for impersonating police officers at a midnight launch event for Grand Theft Auto 5 on Staten Island.
