An intelligence report has surfaced on Kotaku claiming that both Sony and Microsoft plan to keep their current generation of consoles (the PS3 and Xbox 360) alive for a few more years before unveiling replacement systems. The report claims that the likelihood of the next generation of consoles appearing before 2014 is fairly slim.
According to the leak, "both Microsoft and Sony are telegraphing to each other that they're delaying, to milk the current generation and fill the previous craters better."
Other sources confirmed the launch window, although Nintendo's possible announcement of a new next-gen Nintendo platform at this year's E3 may throw a wrench into the works and encourage the two giants to rush a new product into the market instead of sticking to their previously made plans.
One source indicated that the Xbox 720 or any new Xbox in 2013 would likely be a new iteration of the 360 with the Kinect built-in rather than a completely new system.
