Grand Theft Auto 5: Installing Xbox 360 Version to a USB Improves Performance

September 18, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

Grand Theft Auto 5 installation on a USB improves performance.

Installing Grand Theft Auto 5's 'Play Disc' may work best when installed on a USB flash drive.

While Grand Theft Auto 5 does require an installation of the second disc, Rockstar Games advised Xbox 360 players to not install the 'Play Disc' to the hard drive. The installation of both discs causes some noticeable performance problems that many players immediately noticed.

To rid of the noisy disc drive spin, Digital Foundry found that installing the 'Play Disc' to a USB flash drive produces slightly better performance. In the video above, if you look at the footage of Grand Theft Auto running from a disc, you will notice a choppier camera pan compared to the smoother pan of the USB install.

Results may vary depending on your USB flash drive, but the install may please players looking for the best performance.
