Famitsu and Capcom has confirmed Monster Hunter 4 sales over 2 million units, after just coming out in the last 2 days. The game has also precipitated sales in 3DS consoles close to 300,000 units.
Famitsu’s numbers are at 1,875,115 copies of the game sold in two days, and 298,354 3DS units sold since September 9 until today. Famitsu counts sales of special edition Monster Hunter 3DS XLs with the game bundled inside, as well as download cards purchaseable at retail. Of course, they do not have access to digital download sales data.
This is a new record for the highest ever first week sales of any 3DS software in Japan. This is certainly good news for the financially beleaguered Capcom, who has seen a drastic reduction in revenue, and widely missed sales projections for their big games, within the last year.
In their last financial results meeting, Capcom highlighted the game in their plans to regroup. They planned sales of the game to come to 2.8 million units. Take note, that's most of the game's forecasted sales met in a day.

Capcom's press release confirms the game’s stellar performance. They point out that the game has already gone past 2 million units shipped, and subsequently is raising the franchise’s overall total sales from 25 million units. (Remember, Capcom has the digital download data and they added it to Famitsu’s numbers.) Capcom is also highlighting upcoming promotional events that haven’t even come out yet, including Monster Hunter Festa ’13, and an amusement ride to be made in collaboration with Universal Studios Japan.
