New Rumor Suggests The Last of Us 2 Release Just Got Pushed Back

May 29, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Still no word on an official release date.

When it comes to the Sony’s lineup for the 2019 year, most gamers were hoping that development team Naughty Dog would be able to bring out The Last of Us Part 2. The video game would follow the events of The Last of Us after an apparent time jump, but despite all the rumors, teasers, trailers and comments made from officials working on the game, we never got an actual release date. Instead, the rumors and speculation online suggested that The Last of Us sequel would actually release at some point in 2019 making it a very anticipated title this year. Now with Sony moving away from E3 2019 and instead of offering sporadic video uploads to showcase what’s to come from the Sony brand, it was uncertain just when the game would be highlighted again.

We’re halfway through 2019 and so far there is still no official word on the progress or any updates when it comes to The Last of Us Part 2. Instead, we’re waiting for that announcement to come in some shape or form. Now that we’re gearing up for E3 and preparing for the conferences that will be held at the expo, new rumors have emerged online from Naughty Dog. This particular rumor comes from a Kotaku writer by the name of Jason Schreier who alerted his followers that the anticipated Sony exclusive has been pushed back.

Looks like Death Stranding is about to get announced for a November release. The Last of Us 2 was also planned for fall 2019 but I actually just heard it got bumped to early 2020, possibly February? Either way, wild final year for PS4 https://t.co/wh6kimA73b

Internally it seems that the video game development team had hoped to release The Last of Us Part 2 during this year. To be more specific it seems that it was set to be a fall of 2019 release but that has since been removed from the table. Instead, it looks like the upcoming sequel is not actually releasing until 2020 if Jason Schreier is correct.

Again, this is all pure rumor and speculation at the moment as nothing official has been stated. In fact, just like how we mentioned earlier, there was never a release date attached to the project, to begin with for the public to keep track of. For now, it’s purely a waiting game until new details finally release online.
