Deep Down Was Made To Win Online Game Skeptics Over

September 13, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Ono explains how they have leveraged the Playstation 4’s capabilities for the exclusive RPG.

Today, Sony shared their interview with Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono regarding upcoming Playstation 4 exclusive Deep Down. Ono is upbeat about the capabilities of the new console.

As you may already know, the game is set in 2094 New York . Players join a group called the Ravens, who can go back in time by reading items, and using the information found in those items to go to a particular point in the past.

Capcom calls the game a reading RPG. Not only do you read memories off of items, but you read emotions from the different dungeons, which will have distinct themes and personalities.

They also sought to make an online RPG on an online dependent console like the Playstation 4 to purposefully go in a distinct direction away from Dragon’s Dogma and Monster Hunter. A major theme throughout is learning the truth about the past, and with gamers playing together, Capcom hopes they can piece together information from the different dungeons to find out that truth. They want to reduce the barriers between players and online, so that they can win skeptics over to online games.

The game beta will release soon after the Playstation 4 launch, and Capcom has also scheduled a slate of updates to come out regularly.

Ono is enthusiastic about the Playstation 4, citing the easy development environment, also making it easy to hit technical goals like 60 FPS. The Playstation 4 will enable the near photo realistic visual quality of Deep Down, and the system will also make it easy for the game to autogenerate dungeons.

Capcom has also found a use for the Dualshock 4 lightbar. It will visually represent a dungeon’s emotion. Vita Remote Play is also coming in the near future.
