PlayJam, the creator of micro gaming console GameStick has announced a worldwide release date of October 29th for the Android powered device which was successfully Kickstarted in January of this year.
Gamestick, so named because it comes on a USB stick, is described as the world's most portable console and unlike the Ouya, which was also Kickstarted, PlayJam insists that backers will receive their console prior to retail launch.
The press release accompanying the launch date announcement states:
"PlayJam has remained firm in its commitment to honour its promise to their Kickstarter backers to fulfil their units ahead of the retail launch. Those units will ship out at the end of the month with retail following thereafter."
Jasper Smith, PlayJam's CEO, added
"While to myself and the team at PlayJam the journey seems longer, we have in fact come a significant way in a very short period of time with GameStick. The challenge of bringing affordable gaming to the big screen has always sat at the heart of everything we do and GameStick represents a huge step forward in reaching that goal. We’re extremely proud of what we have achieved and look forward to families getting their hands on devices in the run up to Christmas.”
The GameStick is set to be released less than a month before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 15th and 22nd respectively.
Of perhaps more immediate concern to PlayJam could be the release of the recently announced PlayStation Vita TV which is set to be released in Japan in November.
Amazon, GAME, and GameStop will all stock GameStick.
