Thanks to a small gaffe at IGN, images of Pyoroar, a new Pokemon for Pokemon X and Y, resembling a lion with a fiery mane, have leaked and spread online, fueling speculation. The NeoGAF thread explains that IGN didn’t post a page that leaked these pictures per se, rather, one of NeoGAF’s own enterprisingly played around with their site code to find the images.
As you can see, it looks like Pyoroar is a Normal/Fire Type, and based on its color scheme and overall design, many suspect this is the evolution for Litleo, a previously announced Pokemon for Pokemon X and Y. We already know that Litleo is a Normal/Fire Type Pokemon, with an ability called Unnerve.
This may not mean anything, but I personally noticed a resemblance of sorts between the two Pokemon to another anime character, which the series is not shy of getting inspiration from:
Jungle Emperor Leo is one of Osamu Tezuka’s most famous creations, matching the fame and popularity of Astro Boy and Jack Black in its native Japan. It details the coming of age of a lion cub into the leader of the said jungle, and delves into themes of environmentalism and human encroachment onto nature. The original manga series was published in 1950-54, and Jungle Emperor anime have aired since 1965.
I bring this up so that you can see how closely young Leo resembles Litleo, even down to the name;
And also how Pyoroar subsequently looks a lot like the adult Leo. This may not mean anything, but if you buy into Pokemon creators using this anime for inspiration, we may be looking at Litleo’s evolution.
As for the leak, it may not mean much in the long run since this is likely in an IGN post that was set to go public soon anyway. The games global release is not that far away. We look forward to finding out more from IGN themselves soon.
