At a press conference this morning Sony finally announced that the PS4 will be released in Japan on February 22nd, 2014.
The system will retail for 38,980 yen ($390) for just the console and for 43,980 yen ($440) for a bundle including the PS4 camera.
Understandably, some Japanese gamers may be annoyed to find they have to wait so long in Sony's home territory and to compensate them for the wait the company has announced a PS4 'limited pack' which includes a free copy of Knack.
The PS4 is set to be released in North America on November 15th, 2013 and fourteen days later on November 29th in Europe. Sony announced the Western release at gamescom a few weeks ago but this is almost certainly the first time a PlayStation product has been launched outside Japan first.
The Xbox One is also set for a 2014 release date but it's unclear exactly when Microsoft will launch in the country.
