After a lengthy delay, the addition of new platforms, and an old fashioned petition, Rayman Legends is finally here. The Ubisoft platformer has been through development limbo for quite some time, and while it started out as one of the best reasons to pick up a Wii U, the project’s exclusivity was dropped with the hopes to find more success on other consoles. However, new sales data points to the Wii U, and not the three other platforms with much deeper pools of users to draw from, as the biggest money maker for our limbless hero.
The news comes from sales monitor ChartTrack (via CVG), showing that the Wii U version of Rayman Legends made up 45 percent of all copies of the game sold up to this point. The Xbox 360 was in second place, accounting for 35 percent of the sales, with the PS3 and PC filling in the remaining 25 percent. The data collected only shows the physical copies sold at this time, so we don’t have a crystal clear vision of the game’s success. The PC numbers would likely see a drastic increase if digital sales were taken into account.
Unfortunately, Rayman Legends still couldn’t break into the top five in its launch week, with the colorful adventure only snatching the sixth spot. The previous game, Rayman Origins, seemed to have the legs that its protagonist is missing, so expect the positive reviews and word of mouth to propel Ubisoft’s mascot to a long, prosperous life.
