Coming November 12, 2013, XCOM: Enemy Within is an expansion of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, boasting a large amount of new content, which will be available both as an add-on pack, as well as a standalone game.
Among the additional content are new weapons and equipment, new enemies, such as the Mechtoid, new soldier abilities, including Gene Mods and MECs (Mechanized Exoskeletal Cybersuits), a new alien resource called the Meld, 50 % more maps, an new challenges. Some of the maps, units and abilities were made for multiplayer.
The game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and will retail for Windows and Mac for $ 29.99, as an add-on pack, requiring you have a copy of the original game. Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 will get a special console version, called XCOM: Enemy Within – Commander Edition, to retail for $ 39.99. The console version will have all the content from XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and two content packs, the Elite Soldier Pack and the Slingshot Content Pack. Of course, you will not need a copy of the original for the console.
To commemorate the event, 2K Games and Firaxis released a short new trailer, voiced by Peter Cullen soundalike Jon Bailey. The trailer shows a live video feed of one of your subordinates explaining that they have discovered a new threat, only for the signal to scramble and the message to be lost completely.
As the message cut off, a mysterious logo appears on screen, which I have screencapped for you below:
Could this be the symbol of the Mechtoids? We’ll find out soon enough.
