This might not mean anything, or it could be an early lead. Earlier today, UK retailer Tesco listed Dark Souls 2 to be coming for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, aside from already announced platforms Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. A few hours later, that listing was taken down, and Tesco has gone on record that they are investigating what happened to the site.
Does this mean the game is actually coming to the new consoles? It could go either way. Just four months ago, Tesco inadvertently spoiled the existence of Call of Duty Ghosts. Everything that that listing implied was confirmed (coming to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360). On the flip side, however, Dark Souls developer From Software has repeatedly denied that they are working on a next generation port. Of course, Tesco's statement is neither a confirmation nor denial. We do know retailers know well in advance of consumers about upcoming game releases. It may frustrate fans, but announcements are deliberately scheduled, even delayed, based on planned release date, as well as other factors.
However, what else do we know about this game? From has touted that they are using a new, more powerful graphics engine for Dark Souls II, and it will also have a more sophisticated, responsive AI. We would assume that the Windows port will benefit the most, but wouldn't it make sense to bring a more powerful game to more powerful platforms?
Maybe From Software has looked at it another way, however. Unlike Call of Duty Ghosts, Dark Souls II development was not scheduled to be made as either a Playstation 4 or Xbox One launch game, so From simply may not be ready for them yet.
If it's any consolation, nobody owns a PS4 or Xbox One yet, but the game is sure to be easily available to you now. Dark Souls II will be released March 14 next year.
