Videogamer covers an interview with Sega Europe President Jurgen Post for Sonic: Lost World from MCV. Post thinks that the game will help the Wii U rally when it releases this coming October 18 for the console, aside from the 3DS.
In fact, Sega has high hopes for the game, which he says is the best iteration in the series so far. The company has regained their resolve to improve the quality of Sonic games in recent years, making sure to remove badly reviewed games from the back catalogue and placing focus on their current core title. He cites Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed as proof that their strategy has started to pay off.
Post also brings up the fact that since going third party, Sonic games have performed best on Nintendo platforms. Sega and Nintendo did sign a special deal for three exclusive Sonic titles to come to Nintendo platforms. So far, we have seen Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympics, and Lost World, but Sega has yet to reveal the third game. It is possible that the third game isn't even in production yet.
Post says that the Wii U's floundering performance so far is a worry, but has confidence that Lost World can be one of the games to turn things around. A week after they announced Lost World and their deal with Sega in a Direct, Nintendo had a special Direct for E3. They revealed a solid first party lineup coming for the console, including Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, and the next installments of Mario Kart and Smash Bros.
Post was impressed with the E3 Direct and thinks it will sway people into buying the console when they get released.
