DICE has confirmed the presence of dynamic factions in Battlefield 4 meaning the game's servers can select any faction for any side of any map.
During the Siege of Shanghai, for instance, the sides can be; Russia vs. China, United States vs. China, and Russia vs. United States.
Not only will factions be selectable but the sides will be as well so the server can choose each faction's deployment for a particular side of the map.
One of the most interesting features DICE's Patrick Bach highlights comes at 19:15 in the inverview when he reveals that the game will include scalable HUDs.
The dynamic nature of the factions in Battlefield 4 raises some interesting questions and scenarios. For example, in the campaign the Russians and the Chinese are allies but can fight against each other in multiplayer. Similarly, it would be odd for the Americans and the Russians to fight for control of Shanghai with no sign of Chinese forces.
There's also the question of why the Chinese would need to attack their own city as maps can be played both ways – perhaps they lost control of it and are looking to retake it.
Of course, the situation may have changed by the time the campaign ends.
Either way, it seems there'll be more freedom for players to choose who they fight for, and against, in Battlefield 4.
