One of the biggest, and strangest, surprises of E3 2013 was Final Fantasy 15. It wasn’t too shocking that Square Enix will indeed continue to create new titles in its legendary RPG franchise – that was expected. However, the fact that Final Fantasy Versus 13 is being reformatted into a bigger, mainline project for next-generation consoles is pretty shocking. Plenty of people had written off the previously PlayStation-exclusive Versus game as a nothing more than a pipe dream. But the game is alive and well in this new form, even if the above images show that not even the characters have stayed quite the same since the restructuring.
The above shots are from the new, improved Final Fantasy 15 media that came out just a few months ago, while what’s below it represents the late, great Versus 13. See the differences? First, it’s pretty obvious that the top screens looks sharper, but the facial structures of both characters, as well as the hairstyle of the female figure, have seen an overhaul. Take a look for yourself, as some of the more minute additions are a little bit difficult to pick out.
What else will be different on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One’s Final Fantasy 15? Since we never really had a chance to see much of Versus 13’s contents during development, that might be a difficult question to answer. However, the more action-focused gameplay still seems to be intact, so any fan of this legendary series should remain cautiously optimistic for what could be the biggest departure of all time for the franchise.
