So far, the comparisons made between the Playstation 4 and Xbox One have been in amateur debates on various Internet forums. These discussions only serve to pour fuel on to the ashes of 2007, when the Playstation 3 was so fervently pitted against the already-released Xbox 360. This gave way to what many have so rightly called the Console War. Nintendo's Wii has gone largely ignored when it comes to comparisons between its two older, more powerful brothers. This may actually be a good thing, considering that the Wii outsold both the 360 and the PS3 by a huge margin; however, its Wii U is currently in dire straits…
At any rate, Digital Foundry has recently published a Youtube video that pits the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 against one another. They have built two separate PCs with system specifications nearly identical to their console counterparts and recorded the performance for our viewing pleasure.
The results are pretty similar, but one thing is clear: the PS4 proxy has an upper hand on the Xbox One's from start to finish. While Digital Foundry is quick to note early on that this shouldn't be looked at as a dead-on comparison of the two consoles, the framerate produced by both can't be argued. The PS4 replacement maintains a pretty substantial lead over the Xbox One's by a margin of about 4-6 frames per second. While this will give fanboys and fangirls something to bat each other over the heads with, we know that it isn't a huge difference.
