When Fallout 3 hit the market, RPG gaming changed forever. The bar was raised forever higher by the team over at Bethesda Softworks. Not only was Fallout 3 an impeccable game in and of itself, but it was also the lynchpin around which most of the game's extremely successful downloadable content was based. It is because of this success that gamers are eagerly anticipating the series' next entry, Fallout 4.
In a recent interview conducted by Machinima, Obsidian Entertainment's Chris Avellone talked about what he'd like to see in Fallout 4. Avellone is currently the game designer at Obsidian, having worked on one of the series' spin-off titles, Fallout: New Vegas.
In this interview, Avellone says that there were a number of places talked about that Fallout could be expanded to. Some of these locations include: San Francisco, the Erie Stretch and New Orleans. Interestingly, the development team at one point talked about using New Orleans as a location filled with rival factions, encircled by an enormous dam. This would have some interesting implications as far as the human element of warfare is concerned.
However, what was most interesting came when Avellone talked about what might be happening overseas. Avellone says that fans have been asking for a Fallout based outside of the United States for some time now, and that they'd especially like to see Russia or Poland used as the backdrop for some nuclear catastrophe. While the idea of a Russian ecosystem sounds a bit less tantalizing with franchises like Metro on the market, we'd still love to see Bethesda take the series elsewhere.
