The team over at Square Enix just seems to be on a roll when it comes to game development lately. They have pushed out a number of titles in the past few years, most of which hang around the number 13. This entry number into the franchise has proven to be an enormous cash cow for the developer/publisher, and their success only seems to grow with each iteration. It's funny how a game that was only supposed to be one-off title ended up having over thirteen sequels, right?
At any rate, we thought it wise to compile some of the information that has been released over the past few weeks regarding Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13.
This is what we came up with:
- Several kinds of accessories such as glasses, earrings and pendants will be available from different shops. In addition to the usual weapons and shields, there is also a restaurant – though its purposes are unknown.
- The range of products in these shops will be limited at the beginning of the game, but will increase as the story progresses.
- Lightning will be able to wear the outfits she has worn in Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2. Furthermore, she'll be able to to wear Yuna's clothing from Final Fantasy X. Other head decorations are available exclusively for use on Lightning as well, including a Mog-centric one.
- Inventory space is very limited at the beginning of the game – six slots small – but will increase as the game moves forward.
- Vanille and Fang will both be making a return to the franchise as well. Vanille is currently being sheltered by a religious group known as Salvation Council, though her role in the game is unclear at this point in time.
- There are four main areas in the title: Luxerion, Yusnan, the Wilderness and the Dead Dunes. Luxerion features investigative gameplay, Yusnan has time-sensitive quests, the Wilderness pushes the player to explore and the Dead Dunes are packed with deadly monsters.
- There are 70-80 swords and just a few less shields. The color of this equipment cannot be changed.
- There is no card mini game this time around.
- While it is impossible to change the color of the weapons, players will have the option to customize characters' outfits.
Hopefully this conglomeration of information proves to shed some light on the game, though it appears to mostly be miscellaneous in nature. Here's to hoping that some more meaty information comes our way soon.
