PopCap has put together the first developer diary for Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time, discussing the game's time-traveling scenario and the challenges encountered by the developers in preserving the essence of the beloved first game.
Taking place immediately after the ending of Plants vs. Zombies, the player's crazy neighbor Crazy Dave eats a taco in celebration. Naturally, he wants a second taco, and to do so, he invents a time machine to go back in time before he ate the first taco and ends up going back all the way to ancient Egypt, taking the player along with him.
Together with Crazy Dave, the player must battle the hordes of zombies through historical scenarios ranging from the ancient world to the Golden Age of Piracy, and the Wild West.
In addition to all the new settings, Plants vs. Zombies 2 includes a World Map, in which the player can progress through the aforementioned eras. More scenarios are planned for the game post-release.
The game also sees the addition of a Plant Food mechanic, which gives your plants a limited-use special ability. According to the developers, this allowed them to enhance existing plants with all new characteristics.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 is out on the iOS.
