The Xbox One we all know and love may ship with a sleek, liquid-black finish, but that doesn’t mean the next-generation console will never experience a change of color down the road. We first saw a picture of a black and white striped 'zebra' dev kit and matching controller via Kotaku, leading us to believe that more hues for the box were out there. Now, a fresh leak by a Reddit user shows a new, white Xbox One kit that a developer claims to be an early model.
Everything about the above picture matches what Microsoft first introduced to us back in May, and really, it doesn’t look to be some sort of poor mock-up job. The much brighter Xbox One appears to be a legitimate, if not older, model of the console, and if we’re lucky, we might even see it in retail stores down the road.
A developer supposedly working on an Xbox One game acknowledged the picture, claiming that the white model, along with the zebra one, is something his team has worked with in the past.
"The zebra ones were also earlier dev kits. We've gone through several revisions since the original alpha kit (giant server case) and the current one we have looks like the launch version," the commenter stated.
We just heard earlier today that an Xbox One bundle without the Kinect is a possibility, so maybe we’ll see one package incorporate the snow-white model sometime in 2014. However, this is just speculation, and something we’ll just have to wait until Microsoft addresses before it can be believed.
