In an interview with Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto, published by 1101.com, Miyamoto expressed his interest in releasing more Pikmin 3 levels or missions as DLC.
Through the use of the internet and eShop, Miyamoto said they could release Pikmin 3 DLC in the future. "So, using the internet [the team] thinks it'd like to add new missions and maps to the game little by little."
The North American release of Pikmin 3 is still a few weeks away, but you can read our review here.
Although Pikmin 3 will feature a single player mode with naturally progress the story, the game will also include a Mission Mode that urges players clear levels and earn the most points within a set duration of time. In this video, Miyamoto takes multiple routes to completing the mission which led to him earning a Gold Medal.
With the segmented nature of the Mission Mode, expect the DLC to add onto this mission mode rather than the single player.
Pikmin 3 will launch on August 4th in North America, and July 26th in Europe.
