After an unexpected delay due to a faulty mechanical component, the NVIDIA SHIELD will begin shipping on July 31st.
The NVIDIA SHIELD, originally scheduled to launch on June 27th, saw a $50 price cut a few weeks before release. After the price dropped from $349.99 to $299.99, NVIDIA announced a delay because of a faulty mechanical piece found during the last round of testing and inspections.
Now releasing in the next few weeks, people interested in the NVIDIA SHIELD can visit local GameStops, Microcenters and for Canadians, Canada Computers, to play the SHIELD at "SHIELD Experience Centers."
People who pre-ordered the NVIDIA SHIELD online or at the SHIELD events will also receive a free SHIELD t-shirt.
The NVIDIA SHIELD runs on an Android operating system that allows PC players to stream their PC games to a handheld device. Through the Android system, SHIELD owners can also purchase Google Play store games. The games will stream in a 720p resolution on a 5 inch HD display.
The NVIDIA SHIELD will retail for $299.99 starting on July 31st.
