Reports have surfaced that some European units of the new Nintendo 3DS are experiencing a "black screen of death" that causes the system to crash while playing certain games on the device. The problem is said to render the entire system inoperable, much like Xbox 360s that suffer the "red ring of death".
The issue is reported to happen randomly when users activate the device's 3DSen.
Here's a list of titles where the issue has been reported:
- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars
- Pilotwings Resort
- Super Monkey Ball 3D
- Super Street Fighter IV 3D
- Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
The problem also occurs in certain Mii applications. According to an article on Geek, the issue can be fixed by reformatting the SD card to FAT-32.
Thankfully, the issue is limited to the European shipment of the Nintendo 3DS and reports have yet to surface in Japan and North America.
