Take on Mars, from ArmA and standalone DayZ developer Bohemia Interactive, has received its first gameplay footage following its E3 announcement last month.
The game will be available on August 1st for £9/€10/$13 on PC as part of Steam's Early Access program and places you in charge of a "fully simulated, customisable mobile" Rover or stationary Lander. Players will be tasked with completing verious scientific objectives and all locations used in the game are from actual satellite data of the planet.
Rovers can be destroyed and attachments such as arms, cameras and wheels will break away if roughly used. To replace these components will be expensive and you'll need to complete missions to unlock additional funding.
Players will have access to three game modes: Space Program, Scenarios and Editor mode. Editor mode is designed specifically for modders.
Martin Melicharek, the game's project lead, said, "we hope to receive feedback and suggestions from players and work together to create the most dynamic exploration sim game driven by everyone's passion for exploration and interest in extra-terrestrial bodies such as Mars… Better said, especially Mars!"
NASA won't be performing manned missions to the Red Planet until the 2030s so until then Take on Mars may be the closest you'll get to Earth's neighbour.
